The National Debt

314 million people live in the United States. Our National Debt is approximately 15.4 trillion dollars. Thus, each person’s share of the National Debt is $49,044. Twenty seven percent (27%) of our population is under 20 years old. That means there are approximately 229 million people, living in the United States, age 20 or older. Thus, each person’s share of our National Debt, who is 20 or older, is approximately $67,000. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics January 6, 2012 news release, there are 139 million people employed in the United States. Thus, each employed person’s share of the National Debt is $110,000.

The National Debt of the United States of America, as well as the National Debt of many western countries throughout the world continues to grow. When a country’s debt grows too big, it collapses. Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, and Greece have already required bailouts from the European Union, and it appears that Spain and Italy will follow suit.
